Anderillium - Cuttlefish Brown

Anderillium Cuttlefish Brown - Ink Drop

Cuttlefish Brown is one of three inks that Anderillium Ink sent me to try. Relatively new to the market, and completely new to me, I’ve enjoyed getting to know the brand. This is another ink from their first series, Cephalopods.

A rich, dark, coffee brown!

Anderillium Cuttlefish Brown is a complex, dark chocolate with the tiniest, subconscious hint of green. It’s rich and full, a midnight truffle brown on coated papers. On uncoated papers, there’s more variety, and I’d call it more of a petroleum, or dark walnut brown. I didn’t get consistent shading on coated papers, but on uncoated it’s more significant. Shaded areas add a touch of grey, giving it an attractive, weathered look. As you can see in the splatter, there’s some nice dark sheening in areas of pooling. On coated papers, it’s consistently visible on written strokes, as well, and gives the matte ink a distinct shine.

Nice shading and definition!

Cuttlefish Brown is a nice writing ink. It has the same wetness and viscosity of Anderillium Colossal Squid Dark, that I enjoyed so much. It’s a very comfortable ink for extended writing sessions, and if you want, it’s a great alternative to blue or black in the office. I didn’t have any problems with feathering, but I did notice some bleed-through on uncoated papers. Drying was longer than I prefer but isn’t a deal-breaker on most papers. I really like the feel of this ink.

Anderillium Cuttlefish Brown’s bottle and packaging

I don’t particularly like the jam jar bottles with metal caps. I’m never confident about this style of bottle or cap with ink, and they’re a bit of a letdown, in general. (Anderillium have switched to a somewhat better bottle design since writing this review.)

Based in Florida, Anderillium handmake all of their inks in-house. As you might guess from their themes, they are passionate about protecting the oceans and wildlife, and choose sustainable, environmentally friendly materials whenever possible. Cuttlefish Brown matches my overall impression of the other two inks that I’ve tried. I really like the consistency and feel of these inks very much, and the colors were rich and pleasing. I’m going to enjoy using them more, and I think you would too!

Please note: This ink was sent to me by Anderillium Inks, but that did not influence my review. As always, I present my honest opinions both good and bad.
