3 Oysters - Peacock Blue
In the winter of 2020, 3 Oysters released six new inks. This is the fifth of the six that I have reviewed, and I’ve been very impressed with the writing performance of these inks. Today, we have Peacock Blue from the Delicious series.
Visually, this isn’t the most peacock of peacock blues, but it’s a very attractive, rich, and saturated deep blue. While there are subtle yellow and green undertones that typify a peacock blue, this ink is equal parts midnight blue. These subtleties are best revealed through shade variation. As the splatter and writing reveal, this is a sheening ink. The rich plum red sheen covers areas of pooling on all premium papers, and stroke edges in writing. I think the level of sheen is just right.
Peacock Blue is a wonderful writing ink. I don’t know if 3 Oysters changed anything, but these new releases have all been fantastic writers. It’s a nice wet, glassy smooth ink. Strokes were clean and crisp, particularly on premiums. Shading was strongest on coated papers, but it was visible on all. Drying was a bit longer than average, but not a problem at all. Premiums were 20-30 seconds, and office copy dried in 5 seconds.
I’m not particularly drawn to deep, dark blues in general, but this is a very good-looking blue, and a very nice writing ink. I think people who use a lot of blues will really enjoy 3 Oysters Peacock Blue. There’s a lot to like here, and it’s all very well-managed.
