3 Oysters - Hunters - Forest Green
This is Forest Green from the 3 Oysters Hunters series. Released in early 2023, 3 Oysters sent me the set to try. The six inks in the series create a very interesting, and very attractive color palette. They come in the nice 38ml, glass 3 oysters bottles with the angled corner that conveniently lets you stand it at an angle for easy filling. The packaging is high quality with cute iconography on each label.
With strong visual elements of both forest and olive greens, 3 Oysters have balanced this ink very nicely. On coated papers, there’s a good amount of shading, and that brings out the beautiful dark olives that attract me to this ink. Darker areas dive into the forest greens, and that probably helps make this an appealing color for everybody. This ink is appropriate for any occasion. I prefer it to many of the olivine inks that are popular, and I haven’t had any of the crusting issues that have plagued a couple of inks in the dark olive or forest green category.
Like previously reviewed Blue-Water Navy from the Hunters series, Forest Green is an extremely nice writing ink. Flow is wonderfully wet, but nicely controlled, and very comfortable on the page in an of the nib sizes that I tried. It also dries quickly (extremely fast on uncoated papers!)
There was no feathering or spread on any of my test papers. Stroke profiles were crisp and clean. You’ll get more shading in broader nibs, but if extra fines are your nib of choice, this ink is comfortable and performs well in all sizes.
Check out that swatch on Cosmo Air Light in the second image from the top. This is a very complex ink with lots of potential for the creatives out there! And what a wild chromatography below! There’s actually more orange than I was able to show in the image, as I wanted the swatch card to match the actual color perfectly. So far, I really like what 3 Oysters have done in formulating these Hunters series inks.
The 3 Oysters Hunters series inks are easily available in a number of retail shops in Asia, but as of March 2023, they are still hard to get in North America and Europe. This series is new, and I have a feeling that will change soon. I really hope it does, as these inks are too nice to not be more easily available!
Special thanks to 3 Oysters for sending this and the other Hunters series inks for me to try. As always, my review reflects my full and honest opinions about the ink based on my personal experience using it.
