Diamine - Celadon Cat
Celadon Cat is one of two inks created for the Reddit r/fountainpens group’s 2022 Ink Project. Members chose this and Sailors Warning, and as usual, the inks were made by Diamine. The previous Ink Project creations have been very popular, and that’s true again with the 2022 inks.
Traditional celadon ceramics are almost always a beautifully complex, cool and faded, milky green. The colors combine influences of greys, blues, and sometimes the tiniest hint of orange. This ink is a nice representation of the darker tones that cling to crevices and edges in the designs of the ceramics.
Diamine Celadon Cat is a really nice shading ink. There’s shading on all papers, but on coated papers it’s quite nice. The swatches show lots of color variation in saturated areas, and these undertones are often seen in stroke centers on coated papers. You also get a strong stroke edge, so this ink really pops!
In writing performance, I don’t have any negatives to report. This ink performs as well as any other Diamine. There’s no feathering or spread, but you will find a bit of show-through on uncoated papers. It isn’t enough to really worry about, but it is there. Drying times were good on all papers tested, so no problems.
Celadon Cat is a mysterious and captivating feline, and it has a lot of potential for creative fun, but you could use it every day for work, as well. It’s available in both the 30 ml and 80 ml bottles, and Diamine inks are always very nicely priced. Enjoy!
