BlueBlack x Diamine - Relaxing Grey
BlueBlack - Relaxing Grey - Ink Drop
Relaxing Grey is part of the Georges Seurat set from the BlueBlack Pen Shop Art Collection series of three-ink sets. The color palette was inspired by Seurat’s iconic painting A Sunday on La Grande Jatte. The work covers the labels and box of the beautifully packaged set. Along with Seurat, the series includes sets honoring Monet, and Van Gogh. The inks in these sets were all produced by Diamine with packaging designed by BlueBlack.
BlueBlack - Relaxing Grey - on Cosmo Air Light
Relaxing Grey is a smokey, charcoal grey. There’s shading both light and dark. Coated papers produce the sharpest shading, but uncoated papers produce more consistent shading across a full page of writing. Light areas are a cigarette smoke light grey, while at its darkest, it’s a dark grey that approaches black. There’s a bit of sheen on the saturated splashes and swatches, but in writing flashes are rare.
BlueBlack - Relaxing Grey - Color Range
Diamine inks are some of the most consistent. They’re generally nice writing ink with average to wet flow. That’s been the case with the other two inks in the Seurat set, and it remains true with Relaxing Grey, as well. It’s a very pleasant ink in experience. It’s smooth on the page, and very reliable. You feel very confident using both this, and the other inks in this set.
BlueBlack - Relaxing Grey - on Rhodia
In terms of performance, I don’t really have any negatives to report. On all six of my test papers, strokes were clean and sharp. There were no issues with feathering or bleed. Even on cheap copy paper, show-through was minimal in all but the most saturated areas. Relaxing Grey dried a bit faster than the other two in the set, and I’d call it a better than average drying ink.
BlueBlack - Relaxing Grey - Writing Samples
If you like grey inks, this is a good one. I really like the two Art Collection sets that I’ve tried so far. They’ve all performed very well, and BlueBlack’s design and packaging make these very attractive sets. I recommend them for yourself, or as a gift for a pen and ink-loving friend!

Special thanks to BlueBlack for sending me these inks as a surprise gift! As usual, my reviews reflect my honest opinions, and I always include both the good and bad based on my experience using the ink.
