Antigua’s Dark Brown is an interesting ink. Warm on some papers, cool on others, it’s quite luscious in feel. It will appeal to anyone favoring brown inks, and it’s a nice choice for daily use, too.
Antigua’s Dark Brown fountain pen ink color range
I’d call it a walnut or espresso brown, but it dips into the chocolate browns at times, too. In fact, it reminds me a lot of Graf von Faber-Castell’s Chocolate Brown. On uncoated papers, it’s all about the depth of the luxurious color with little in the way of variation light or dark. On some coated papers, you’ll find a bit of shading and a darkened stroke profile. This is an attractive brown.

Antigua’s Dark Brown is a very pleasing writing ink. It’s wet but rich in flow, and it glides effortlessly across the page. It’s generally well-behaved, too. I didn’t have much problem with feathering. Even on cheap copy paper, there was only slight micro-feathering or spread. Show-through was consistent on office copy with spots of bleed, as well. Given the richness of the ink, this wasn’t a surprise.

The complex chromatography reveals decent water resistance (and the potential for interesting effects using a water brush). Drying was slightly longer than average on many of the papers tested, but not unreasonable.
