Antigua’s - Forest
If you’re looking for a nice, very affordable, everyday green, Antigua’s Forest is a great ink to consider. It’s in the range of greens that a lot of people traditionally enjoy for both fun and professional settings. This is a writer’s green ink.
I usually think of forest green as an earthy, dark green. Antigua’s Forest is a beautiful emerald or Irish green. It’s a touch darker than many emerald inks, and there’s a nice glow to the color. As it dries, the darkest areas fade and the intensity of the green shines. There’s a bit of red sheen on some swatches, but in writing, I didn’t really find much, if any. The final result is quite an attractive green.
This is a wet and juicy ink! It’s smooth in feel, too. On high-quality coated papers, it produces a sharp, clean stroke profile with very nice shading on some, as well. On uncoated papers, strokes are also generally well-defined, but there isn’t much shading at all. I found some feathering and spreading on office copy paper, and some show-through on all uncoated papers. Show-through was moderate to fairly heavy, with a bit of bleeding in the worst cases. Stick with nice, coated papers for best results.
Antigua’s inks come in the beautiful, 50 ml bottles that most people associate with Pelikan’s premium Edelstein series. At €11.99, Antigua’s are priced much more affordably, and I think they perform extremely similarly. If this ink performed better on the cheapest papers, it might be the ideal emerald green, but don’t let that stop you. This is a nice ink. You can find it at www.antiguas.es. And good news! Starting in January 2024, full international shipping will be available!
Special thanks to Miguel Angel at Antigua’s for gifting me with the inks, and to Maria at www.inksinspiration.com for sending them as a surprise! Check out both of their websites!
