3 Oysters Dancheong - Ink Drop

From 3 Oysters I.Color.U series, Dancheong is a tranquil, dusty tomato red, with eye-catching traces of bronze sheen. It’s simultaneously bold, yet reserved.

In Korean, the name Dancheong refers to the complex, geometric painting tradition, rich in both color and symbolism, that customarily adorns the eaves, pillars, and ceilings of palaces and temples. Dancheong is based on balance, and the five elements. It includes five basic colors and is rich in symbolism. 3 Oysters Dancheong is a good example of the red traditionally used.

3 Oysters Dancheong is rich!

This beautiful, powdery red, mixed with touches of bronze sheen makes for a lovely writing ink. It shades both light and dark, and darkens at the edges making it crisp, and easy to read. This color projects a lot of life. It’s quite attractive.

In writing, I haven’t had any problems with feathering or bleeding. It’s been fairly easy to clean, without any staining. This isn’t an especially fast-drying ink, taking slightly longer than average to fully dry. It’s something to keep in mind, but it doesn’t take long enough to significantly detract from the appeal of this lovely ink. This is a nice writing ink.

3 Oysters is an interesting company, with a strong aesthetic identity. Dancheong is both beautiful and soothing, and I’m definitely a fan!
