Van Dieman’s - Neptune’s Necklace
Van Dieman’s - Neptune’s Necklace - Ink drop
Van Dieman’s Neptune’s Necklace is another ink from their seventh series, Underwater. I’ve enjoyed many of the inks. This one isn’t as flashy as some of the others, but it has an interesting, unusual color profile.
Van Dieman’s - Neptune’s Necklace - Color Range
Neptune’s Necklace is a beautiful, powdery burnt butter. I expected more caramel notes when I ordered it and was initially a bit disappointed. However, it quickly changed my mind, and I’ve kept a pen inked with it for the past week. There is a lot of nice shading, and it gives me a very pleasant feeling seeing it fill a page.

In writing, it performed well on all five premium test papers. In addition, it didn’t give me any problems on office copy paper. This is a versatile ink, and it dries quickly, too! Strokes were clean and sharp in profile. You might imagine that this isn’t a strong ink in terms of readability, but that isn’t the case.

This series has some real head-turning inks. Neptune’s Necklace might not be your first choice, but don’t overlook it completely. It’s a lovely ink, great for casual or professional settings. I haven’t tried it in a water brush, yet, but I think it will really reward the effort. Enjoy!
