Troublemaker - Mango
Troublemaker Mango is an ink with a bit of controversy, but it’s a beautiful ink. I think the problems are in the past, and my experience was very pleasant. Let’s take a look.
Troublemaker Mango is a beautiful blend of yellows, oranges, and reds. It goes on red and fades to a carrot orange as it dries. These are colors that always bring a smile to my face. They speak in bright, optimistic tones. Shading reveals both yellows and reds.
When first released, some people reported silky bands of sediment in bottles, in my sample there were none. The company assured this is not fungal growth (the ink contains a biocide that precludes this possibility). They say it was related to a problem with the surfactant (ingredient used to regulate surface tension) used. They offered refunds, but insist it is not a risk to pens and can be safely ignored. My sample was perfect in every regard.
Mango performed very well in writing experience and results. I didn’t have any problems with feather or bleed. Strokes were sharp and clean. The ink wrote beautifully on all six test papers, and dried in 15-20 seconds.
My sample of Troublemaker Mango is a lovely ink, and I doubt the problem will be repeated in future batches. It takes courage for a company to be responsive and communicate transparently in situations like this, and I think that courage and honesty should be supported. I don’t know of any complaints since that situation several years ago, and the company has been operating with expanded and more efficient production and distribution facilities since around 2021. Troublemaker Inks is a brand I trust.
