Robert Oster - Caffe Crema
Robert Oster Caffe Crema is an ink that I’ve planned on reviewing for a long, long time. It’s the kind of brown that immediately whispers “delicious”, and the name does nothing but reinforce the beauty and mood of the ink!
It truly is a coffee or cappuccino brown. There are lovely hints of buttery orange that give it a playful feel, but it never strays too far beyond its identity as a brown. Uncoated papers show less saturation and seem to blossom more of the orange influences, while coated papers shade more and allow darker areas to saturate the deeper browns. It’s a nice shader on coated papers, with lots of contrast between light and dark on each stroke. In a stub nib, it’s really quite stunning on both!
This is a very nice writing ink. It’s slightly dry on the page, but not overly so, and is still comfortable and smooth flowing. Although there is a good amount of dark sheen on the splatter, I didn’t find much halo, but it’s a very tolerant ink with a clean, crisp profile.
It’s easy to like this very attractive, well-behaved ink. I’m a big fan of KWZ Honey, and where Honey leans yellow, Caffe Crema leans orange. I think they complement each other nicely. After reading this review, I’m sure it’s no surprise that I strongly recommend Caffe Crema. Enjoy!
