Today’s ink, Blue Moon, is from Robert Oster’s Shake ‘N’ Shimmy series of shimmer inks. This is a gorgeous, powerful, celebration of an ink! It’s Diamine Jack Frost on steroids, Iroshizuku Kon-peki full nuclear!

Blue Moon is a nice shader, and the lights and darks are quite different in character. At its lightest, it’s a bold, yet translucent, blue aqua-turquoise. Darker areas lose translucency, and take on a deep, rich powdery persona. It’s a super vibrant, mid-blue that borders on blue teal. As you can see in the splatter, areas of pooling are ringed in a brilliant, fiery cinnamon sheen. This often carries over to outline written strokes, as well. Blue Moon’s shimmer is a smooth, micro-fine particle. The stunning silver blankets strokes beautifully, but somehow still feels nicely restrained. Visually, this is a gorgeous celebration in blue!

As a writing ink, Blue Moon can be a bit picky in terms of paper, before releasing its secrets. It simply loves Rhodia and performed at the highest level in every category! Strokes were razor-sharp. Sheen, halo, and shading were very high, with a drying time of 20-25 seconds. Although slightly less crisp, it performed very well on Kokuyo, but sheen and halo were noticeably weaker. On both Mnemosyne and office copy it was pretty good, but feathering increased. Apica was the worst of the five, but it was still usable.

If you stick to Rhodia or something that gives the same results, this is a gorgeous ink! It’s not office-appropriate, or everyday-ready, but it isn’t designed to be. Like almost all Robert Oster inks, it does what it does extremely well, and I want more! Enjoy!
