Robert Oster - Blood Crimson
This is Blood Crimson from the ink alchemists at Robert Oster. I’ve been excited to try this one, and it didn’t disappoint!
Visually, this is a gorgeous, deep crimson with plum influences. It’s darker than a neutral, mid-red, yet lighter than a burgundy, making it quite comfortable for extended use. It’s a confident shading ink, with lights leaning slightly pink, but not aggressively so. The splatter shows a dark edging with well-developed, green-gold sheen on top. In writing, there was no sheen, but hints of a darkened halo edging were seen on some premium papers.
Blood Crimson is a consistent, reliable, enjoyable writer. Strokes were sharp on all five premium papers, and on office copy, as well. Shading was strongest on Mnemosyne, but was also good on Apica, and office copy, too. Halo was only visible on Kokuyo, Fabriano, and Apica. Drying times were quick on all papers tested. Premium coated papers dried in 10-20 seconds, premium uncoated papers in 5-15 seconds, and office copy dried in 5 seconds.
Robert Oster is not only one of the world’s most prolific makers. In terms of writing experience, they make some of the most consistent inks, as well. Blood Crimson lives up to their reputation. It’s a gorgeous red, and it thrives with a wide range of pens and papers. If you’ve never considered reds, consider this one! You’ll definitely like this one!
