PenBBS - 159 Bitter Herb
Today’s ink is a beautiful, organic green from PenBBS. This is no. 159 Bitter Herb. I’m a real fan of greens like this, that fall towards the plant colors, as opposed to the emeralds.
Visually, this green screams health and vitality. It’s a rich, vibrant, olive green with vegetal influences that give it the look of a leafy, garden salad. The name Bitter Herb captures both the specific green, and also the blackened edging seen both on the splatter, and as a stroke halo in writing. This ink shades on all papers, which adds light, celery highlights to stroke ends. It’s a beautiful ink.
As a writing ink, Bitter Herb is a very nice performer. Strokes were sharp and clean, accentuated by the well-developed stroke halo seen on premium papers. The ink acts and feels wet, and flows smoothly, but dries very quickly. Premiums dried in 5-15 seconds, and office copy in under 5 seconds.
It’s easy to like this ink, and honestly, I think it would be difficult not to like it! It’s brighter and fresher, than either Rohrer & Klingner’s Alt-Goldgrün, or another favorite, KWZ Gold Green 2. If you like either of those, you’ll definitely like this. Enjoy!
