Yuyi Inks - Agil Pro
Yuyi is a new brand to me, and despite its prolific offerings, it’s a bit of a mystery. (On the Fountain Pen Companion website, it’s grouped under a brand called Memory Fish, but I don’t have any information to verify this connection.) I ordered several Yuyi inks on AliExpress (the price was amazing). Three inks arrived from one series, and I’m expecting a couple more from another. All three are shimmer inks, and they’re packaged in the same bottles and opaque plastic boxes used with Ancient Charm (aka Ancient Song) inks. While those have “Yi Station” written on them, these have Yuyi written in stylized characters. I suspect both are made by the same manufacturer. Please comment if you have any info?
This is Yuyi Agil Pro, and it’s part of a series named for types of fish. I don’t know the “Agil Pro”, but to me the image looks like a blue cobalt cichlid. In any case, it’s a beautiful, happy, cobalt blue with fine-particle gold shimmer. It’s quite stunning, and even indoors you feel like it’s always capturing the sun’s rays!
To get the best results in terms of writing, you need to choose your pen and paper carefully. The shimmer didn’t cause any problems, nor was feather an issue. It’s drying that you need to consider. In a wet pen on coated paper, you’re going to be waiting…and waiting. In a drier pen on uncoated paper, it isn’t too bad, but it’s still quite slow.
Overall, I like this ink. It’s gorgeous on the page, but for a pleasant experience you need to respect its demands. Pair it with the right pen and paper, and it’s a nice ink. I’m looking forward to trying more from Yuyi.
