Van Dieman’s - Twilight Mist
This is Van Dieman’s Twilight Mist. It’s part of their Midnight series, which features inks inspired by dark and somber hues of the night. They describe Twilight Mist as the purple glow of forests and mountains in the hours before dawn. It fits these themes well, but to me it is the luxuriousness of the ink that is its most striking feature.
Twilight Mist is pure decadence in sparkling violet. The base color is a beautiful, rich, lilac-violet. It’s soft, but heavily concentrated. Heavier applications deepen and darken in intensity, achieving a depth of color that truly does feel like an inky, violet midnight. Van Dieman’s Inks create some of the finest-particle shimmer on the market. Twilight Mist’s beautiful base is lavishly coated with a brilliant platinum shimmer that gives a satiny, silky feel to the appearance, and the luxuriousness that to me defines this ink. There is a fair amount of shading under the shimmer, and this brings out the darks and lights that blend with it so well. It’s simply gorgeous!
Shimmer inks aren’t always the best writing inks. They are often plagued with flow issues, or they’re delicate and messy on paper. In my experience, none of this was a problem with Twilight Mist. There were no clogging or flow problems, and cleaning was easy, as well. I liked it on all six test papers. Strokes were razor-sharp, even on office copy. Shading was seen on all, but it was strongest on coated papers. Overall, I liked it best on Kokuyo and Rhodia. Drying was fantastic on coated papers (10 seconds), uncoated premiums (10-15 seconds), and only 5 seconds on office copy. This ink was a pleasure!
Van Dieman’s really know how to create magic on paper, and Twilight Mist is another in a string of beautiful shimmer inks in their collection. Don’t miss this one!
