Shanghai Stationary - Lotus of the Silver Moon
Lotus of the Silver Moon was released in October, 2024. It’s part of Shanghai Stationary’s Famous Gardens of China mini-series. You can find it in a 3-ink set in a 10 ml bottle, or it’s available individually in the 50 ml bottles.
Inspired by the petals of the lotus flower, this is a beautiful magenta pink with hints of violet. Like the flower, a delicate appearance masks a resilient strength. You won’t have problems with readability but can still enjoy the gentle personality of this ink. Wet on the page, you’ll have a hard time deciding if it’s a violet or a pink, but as it dries the pinks blossom and the balance is clear.
This is a nice shading ink, too. There’s good variation from dark to light. Stroke definition is crisp and sharp, but on some papers I found it to be sensitive to fingerprints. As these images show, feathering and spread is not a problem at all if you’re careful not to over-handle writing areas.
It flows nicely and is comfortable in use. Chromatography suggests good water-resistance, and it shows the bold color components that give the ink such a strong foundation. The result is an unusual pink that is both easy to read and easy to enjoy! I recommend the 3-ink set, as it let’s you try three colors with enough of each to really get to know them.
Special thanks to Shanghai Stationary for sending this and several other inks over to try! As usual, when I accept inks or pens to try, I review the ones I want, and I always include all the negatives and positives that I find. I write these reviews based solely on my own user experience, and to give you the info that I’d want as a potential customer. Enjoy!
