PenBBS - 381 Frosted Leaf in Autumn
Today’s ink is Frosted Leaf in Autumn, which is No. 381 in the PenBBS collection. The bottle shows a beautiful red sunset glow reflected across a cloudy sky and forested canopy. The ink is as beautiful as the scene portrayed on the label and evoked in the name. I really like this ink!
Visually, this is a beautiful, deep orange, brick red. It’s the color of a just ripe or nearly ripe tomato. It’s powdery, and on some papers, there’s a soft white glow that matches morning frost on an autumn leaf. This is a moderate shading ink, and the pops of lights and darks add life to the base color. It shows a nice halo on premium papers, adding depth, and giving strokes a defined edging. The splatter shows an electric green sheen, but none was found in writing. This is a very unusual color, and I was instantly drawn to it.
This is also a fantastic writing ink! Strokes were clean and sharp on all premiums, and on office copy, too. Shading was seen on all papers, but was strongest on coated premiums. Halo edging was strongest on coated papers, as well, but was absent on office copy. Drying times were consistent at 15 seconds on premiums, and under 5 seconds on office copy. It performed very well on all papers tested.
PenBBS really makes some lovely inks. Their shimmers are dazzling, but Frosted Leaf in Autumn is another reminder to never forget their non-shimmers. This is an unusual ink. It’s aesthetically very attractive, reader-friendly, and performs flawlessly as a writer. This is a very good ink, and I highly recommend it!
