Nahvalur - Mango Sorbet
Mango Sorbet is part of Nahvalur’s Explorer Ink series. Released at the end of 2022, these are Nahvalur’s first inks, and they promise more colors to come later in 2023.
I think they’ve named this ink perfectly! The base color is a very dark, yellow orange that often looks like ripe mango flesh in the smile of direct sunlight. There’s shading on many papers, and these light accents add a creamy touch of sorbet. In darker areas, there’s a hint of mustard that adds a nice earthiness. As you can see in the writing examples, coated papers tend to show darker oranges, while uncoated papers provide more brightness and shading.
Writing performance was mostly very good, but unlike the others in the series, I found this ink likes some pens more than others. Mango Sorbet is a wet ink, and pens that have a more controlled flow gave the best results. Feather wasn’t a problem on most papers, and drying was average to slightly longer on coated papers. Overall, this is a good writing ink.
Interestingly, these are pigment inks, but I didn’t find the same water resistance here as with the other three. I like this ink though. The sun-kissed appearance that thrives on some papers is very attractive.
Nahvalur have done a nice job with these first Explorer Inks. They come in nice, glass bottles and are priced well. I’m looking forward to seeing this series grow!
Note: Nahvalur sent me all four Explorer inks to try, but that doesn’t influence my review. As always, I present my honest opinions, both good and bad.
