Kyo-No-Oto - Moegiiro
Moegi-iro translates as the color of newly sprouted buds or sprouts. The name matches the ink so perfectly. From Kyoto TAG’s Kyo-No-Oto line, the colors you’ll find vary from paper to paper and with the level of shading, but all share bright and bouncy, garden-fresh greens.
There’s a lot of yellow in this green, which gives it its vegetal liveliness. The colors bring to mind the greens of limes, celery (leaves and stalks), and varieties of lettuce. Shading ranges from moderate to impressive depending on the paper style and aspects of the nibs that you choose. Shading really bring the yellow influences to the spotlight and add splashes of sunlight to stroke ends.
In my juicy Diplomat Aero, this ink feels fantastic in writing. In drier nibs, this is definitely a fairly dry ink, but not so in something that writes really wet. You’ll also find a moderate level of water resistance with this ink. Drying times were average or better on all papers, as well.
I didn’t have any problems with feather or spread on any of my six test papers, but that isn’t surprising with an ink from Kyoto TAG. On cheap copy paper, there’s some show-through and spots of bleed, but on coated papers, there aren’t any real concerns. You’ll find more shading on coated papers, too, although I like it on both coated and uncoated papers.
AS always, Moegiiro is beautifully presented in bottle (40 ml) and box. They have some of my favorite packaging. It’s very high-quality and sophisticated in design. These aren’t the cheapest inks, but I never regret the purchase!
