KWZ - Pine Green
Pine Green is from KWZ’s standard series. These are dye-based, water-soluble inks. Like almost all inks from KWZ, you’ll find the soft scent of vanilla in use. It’s restrained, and it doesn’t have an adverse effect on performance.
This is an attractive, but in some ways, conservative emerald green. It’s the kind of green that pine trees would probably love to be. It has more energy and more personality than the darker greens that I picture in pines.
At the same time, it’s interesting, and the color you find depends on the paper you use. On some, it’s the cool, deep green of an expensive, high-grade emerald, with blue undertones subtly dominant. On others, the yellow influences are more visible and make it more vegetal than gem in appearance. In both cases, it’s a confident and attractive green. There’s variation, but dramatic shading isn’t common.
KWZ inks are handcrafted and formulated for reliability. In my tests on six brands of paper, writing performance was excellent in almost all examples. I found some feathering on Fabriano, but strokes were sharp on the other coated and uncoated papers. Even on office copy paper, it was crisp and clean, but there was a bit of show through. It’s a moderately wet ink with a very comfortable consistency and feel. It’s very smooth. It’s a nice writing ink.
KWZ Pine Green is a great choice if you’re looking for a new emerald green. The vanilla scent is a feature that I like, but it seems to bother a small minority. You can find Pine Green in 60 ml bottles for as low as US$10, but $15 is more common at most retailers it seems. At either price, KWZ inks are highly recommended.
