Jacques Herbin - Kyanite du Nepal
This is another Jacques Herbin that I’ve been interested in, since it was released in 2019. Kyanite du Nepal is a fun, extroverted blue, and as a 1798 series ink, it’s paired beautifully with a brilliant silver shimmer. That makes sense, as it’s named for Kyanite, a bright blue mineral found in aluminum-rich deposits.
The blue here is luminous and leans towards a dark turquoise in lighter areas. In the medium nib of my test pen, written strokes take on a darker blue on coated papers, with occasional lighter shading on stroke ends. As you can see in some of the images, there is a nice cinnamon, plum red sheen on the borders of saturated areas, which can be seen on stroke edges, as well, on coated papers. Between the blues, hints of red, and the glints of shimmer, there’s a lot going on here, and it all creates a very enticing visual feast!
As expected, this ink writes very nicely. The flow is consistent, with a viscous feel. I didn’t have any problems with the fine-particle shimmer in use or maintenance, but that may vary from pen to pen. Strokes were clean and sharp, with little to no feather. With an ink this rich, there was, however, a bit of show-through on some papers at times. Drying was somewhat slow, but that’s pretty standard for this type of ink.
Jacques Herbin Kyanite du Nepal is a very striking ink; there’s no denying its beauty! I do have a number of similars, but the shimmer here seems to stand out. I think you’ll enjoy this ink, and I definitely recommend it!
