Ink Institute - Cat at Dusk
Cat at Dusk is from Ink Institute’s four-ink Cat series, which playfully captures the daily lives of our feline friends. Many of Ink Institute’s labels feature art created using the ink itself. Cat at Dusk’s label depicts two cats resting next to a ball of string following an afternoon of play.
Like the other two from the series that I’ve tried, Cat at Dusk is a beautifully complex ink. It’s a sultry, smoky grey with blue undertones, and subtle hints of yellow. It’s a graceful shading ink, with blending clouds that swirl and flow, and a strong, defining edge halo. Despite its steely first impression, I found it quite fresh and energetic! It looks fantastic on the page, and different styles of paper bring out different aspects of its personality.
This is a beautiful writing ink! It’s wet, flows smoothly, and is very comfortable to use. Strokes were very sharp and clean. On premiums papers, there’s a very well-developed edge, which adds depth and dimension, framing each stroke on the page. Shading was consistent and adds just the right amount of variation, giving the ink a playfulness, much like the cats it depicts. Drying was a bit long on coated premiums at 20-30 seconds, faster on uncoated premiums at 10-15 seconds, and under 5 seconds on office copy.
I’m very happy to have this ink! It’s gorgeous, captivates on the page, and writes beautifully, as well. If you’re looking for an interesting grey, give it a try!
