Diamine - Wine Divine
Wine Divine is a beautifully luscious shimmer ink from Diamine’s Shimmertastic collection. I’ve reviewed many in the series, and with only one or two exceptions, they’ve been consistently nice in both looks and writing experience. If you’re hesitant to try shimmer inks, Diamines are a good place to start.
Wine Divine is the perfect name for this ink! The base color is a deep, pigeon’s blood red with a touch of plum purple. In a wine glass, I’d call it a young cabernet sauvignon. Tasty! The scarlet reds are stronger on some papers, but on most, the beautiful balance between the red and purple elements really make this ink stand out.
Diamine’s shimmers are almost always a nice fine-particle and rarely have caused me any problem. Wine Divine is no different. The gold shimmer is as good, as I’d hoped. If you like shimmer, this ink definitely has plenty, too! Against the rich base color, the lush gold creates a decadent, luxurious combination. (If you don’t want as much, gently fill your pen without shaking the bottle, and you can fully enjoy the beautiful base color.)
There’s a bit of shading on coated papers, but it’s often hidden under the carpet of gold. Strokes were clean and crisp on all papers tested. I didn’t find even a hint of feather or spread. Even on office copy, show-through is almost non-existent. I expected more is such a saturated color. It’s rich and wet in flow, too. The writing experience is pure comfort. In performance and experience, this is a great ink.
I definitely recommend Wine Divine. It’s a classic and sophisticated beauty and a shimmer ink you shouldn’t fear. Diamine’s Shimmertastic inks come in nice, 50 ml bottles. You’ll find them for US$20-22 at many online retailers, and far less in the UK.
