Diamine Razzmatazz ink drop

Diamine Razzmatazz - an explosion of color!

Razzmatazz! What a fantastic name! Diamine added it to their Shimmering Ink series in 2018. The name matches this interesting ink pretty well. It comes in a 50ml bottle, gold-capped bottle, indicating that it’s a gold shimmer ink.

Visually, this is quite an unusual ink. For some, the first impression may be a bit off-putting, but this ink’s charms may just grow on you. The base color is a yellow-green chartreuse. It’s a nice shading ink. Lighter areas highlight the yellow components and maintain some translucency. Darker areas are more of a medium-to-deep, olive green. In the splatter, a crunchy, jet black sheen edges pooling. Although little carries over to written strokes, on Rhodia a bit appeared as a darkened edging or halo. The golden shimmer is an evenly distributed, fine particle. When everything comes together, this is a dramatic ink, with its own unique charms.

Diamine Razzmatazz - ink swatch card and drying

As a writing ink, it performed well. It’s a smooth flowing, wet ink. Shimmer particles stay in suspension well, and I didn’t have any clogging or hard start problems. Rhodia was the nicest in appearance, as it’s dark halo and strong shading were clearest. On all four premium papers, strokes were clean and crisp. Shading and halo were better on coated papers than uncoated, and drying times ranged from 15 to 25 seconds. It didn’t perform as well on office copy paper. Stroke profile suffered from some feathering, but shading was pretty good. Overall, this is a nice writing ink.

I recommend Diamine Razzmatazz, if you’re looking for an unusual ink with a strong gold shimmer. If you’re hesitant, but give this ink a chance, there’s a good chance that it will win you over!
