Colorverse - New Year 2023
This is New Year 2023. It’s a U.S. exclusive release from Colorverse in collaboration with Luxury Brands of America. Luxury Brands is the N. American distributor for Colorverse products, and a wide range of other pen and ink-related brands.
I don’t typically go for emerald greens, but maybe that’s changing, because I can see the appeal after spending some time with this ink. New Year 2023 is a bright, yet medium-to-dark, emerald green. It’s full in color and quite saturated. There’s a bit of sheen edging in the swatches, but I didn’t find any sheen in writing. Don’t worry, though, this ink has plenty of eye candy!
This is one of Colorverse’s glistening inks, and it sparkles with both gold and silver shimmer. Your results will vary widely based on the nib you choose. In broader nibs, there’s a generous level of shimmer. I had some flow issues in a couple of finer-nibbed pens. A little priming of the piston or converter helped instantly, but I recommend choosing a pen with a wider nib for best results.
I found good color variation in some pen and paper combinations. I wouldn’t call it a shading ink, but you do get a nice range from medium to dark emerald. This helps brighten the ink and gives it an upbeat personality. Combined with hints of shimmer, this ink shines brightly.
Writing performance was mixed. When it’s good, it’s very good. However, there’s some ghosting and bleed-through on uncoated papers. I recommend coated papers with this one to eliminate the worry. I also found a few examples of micro-feathering on some papers, but I think most of this was related to fingerprints on the page. Overall, it was pretty good in terms of stroke profile. Drying times were average, too, so no worries there.
I like the true emerald green of New Year 2023, which really surprised me. The shimmer combination against the green is beautiful, too. Appropriately, this is a great celebration ink. Pair it with the right pen and paper, and it’s a winner! It’s a limited-edition release, but as of April 2023, it’s still pretty easy to find on many of the major online retailers.
