Color Traveler - Hiroshima Lemon
Today, I’m happy to be looking at Hiroshima Lemon Yellow from Color Traveler. Color Traveler is the in-house ink brand of Tayama Bungu, a 120-year old stationery store based in Hiroshima. Hiroshima Prefecture, with its 142 islands, is Japan’s largest producer of lemons.
The color of this ink represents the fresh greenish yellow of a just ripe lemon. Visually, this is a medium-chartreuse, a balanced blend of yellow and green. On some papers, the yellow qualities are more dominant, while others nurture the greens. As the splatter shows, areas of pooling dry to a rich, olive green. This is also a nice shading ink, though, and light areas add sunshine accents in the form of yellow stroke highlights. This is a very attractive ink!
As a writing ink, I found Hiroshima Lemon Yellow to be moderately wet, with a nice, smooth flow. It excels on most coated premiums, where strokes were clean and sharp. On uncoated premiums, it suffered a bit from micro-feathering and bleed. Surprisingly, it performed fairly well on good office copy, however. Shading was moderate overall, and there was no halo. Drying was 20-25 seconds on premiums, and 5 seconds on office copy.
I really like Color Traveler inks, and the beautiful boxes include a glass dropper and a travel vial, which is the icing on top! Hiroshima Lemon Yellow probably isn’t for the office, but it’s a lovely, unusual color, and very usable, overall. If you can pair it with the right paper, you’ll enjoy this color’s verve and personality!
