BlueBlack x Diamine - Mayfair
Whereas Roast Beef (the third ink in the set) was a rusty dark red with a subtle hint of purple stroke centers, Mayfair is nearly the opposite. This is a rich, reddish plum. It’s dark and decadent with a lush, plush appearance. It’s immediately luxurious.
There’s some stroke-end shading on coated papers that adds spots of sunlight and accent. A darkened stroke edge gives it a confident, decisive personality. This is a very attractive ink.
In writing, Mayfair has a nice, smooth flow. I’d call it neutral to wet in feel. It was consistent and clean on all papers tested. I didn’t have any problems with feathering, and the dearkened edging makes strokes pop from the page. Drying was pretty average overall, and while show-through found on uncoated papers, it was lighter than expected for such a rich plum.
I like Mayfair (and the whole City of London set, so far). You can find the set at BlueBlack’s Seoul store or online. (They have both a Korean site and an English site.) This is a beautifully presented set with a nice menu of colors.
Special thanks to BlueBlack for surprising me with the gift of this set. It doesn’t influence my review in any way, but it is appreciated!
