BlueBlack x Diamine - Mood of the Day
Mood of the Day is the first ink in the Almond Blossoms set from BlueBlack Pen Shop and Diamine. This is the first of three in their 2023 Art Collection series of three-ink sets. Each set honors a famous painter, and in this case, the set focuses on Van Gogh. The set’s color palette was inspired by the notable work that names the set. The packaging and labels are beautifully designed and feature the painting, as well.
The swatch on Cosmo Air Light above reveals just how much variation there is in this beautiful ink. This is a strong aquamarine green with lots of blue in light areas, and hints of yellow coming through in saturated areas. When the ink first hits the page in written strokes or splatters, it leans more towards the blue end of aquamarine. It’s a nice shading ink, and stroke ends retain that stunning tropical water blue.
As it dries, saturated areas and stroke centers drift firmly into the aquamarine greens, and emerald greens in the darkest areas. There’s a hint of sheen in the swatch, but in writing there is almost none at all. Strokes do have a nice, darkened edging, however, and this really gives the ink a lot of punch and clarity. On both coated and uncoated papers, you can clearly feel the yellow aspects in stroke centers, too. Beautiful!
Mood of the Day is a nice, wet ink. It’s very well-behaved, and you always feel completely in control. As the writing samples show, there was no issue with feathering or spread, and show-through was minimal, as well. It dries fairly quickly, even on coated papers with a very wet pen.
This is a very pretty ink, and it performs very nicely in writing. I think a water brush would really bring out the best in this ink, too. There is a lot of variation, and the colors and tones work together beautifully. Almond Blossoms is a stunning set. The three-color palette is modern and very attractive.
BlueBlack really have a winner in this set! The Art series concept is brilliant, and I’m really looking forward to trying them all. These sets are BlueBlack store exclusives. Special thanks to BlueBlack for sending me these inks as a surprise gift! As usual, my reviews reflect my honest opinions, and I always include both the good and bad based on my experience using the ink.
