Blackstone - Uluru Red
Uluru Red was part of Blackstone Inks’ Colours of Australia series. Uluru is Australia’s monolithic icon in the outback of the Northern Territory. The sacred, stone mountain is famous for its changing colors throughout the day and year.
Blackstone’s Uluru Red takes its inspiration from the deep, rich, red glow of Uluru at sunset. This is a nice shading ink. It lightens to a lovely, faded pinkish burgundy in some areas, which contrasts well against the powerful black cherry of the darker areas. It’s a well-behaved ink, as well, with no feathering on any of the papers that I used for testing, including the cheap office copy paper that foils most others!
Without warning, Blackstone closed its doors in August 2020. It's disappointing that they are no longer in operation. They were an important company in the Australian ink market, and they made some very lovely inks. At one point, they were the go-to ink for Australia, and they’re missed by many.
