Birmingham Twilight - Ink Drop

Today’s ink is from Birmingham Pen Co.’s reformulated, internally manufactured, newer releases. This is Twilight from their Swift Formula series. These are wet inks, designed to start quickly, and operate safely and easily. Like all Birmingham inks, they are available in 30ml, 60ml, and 120ml bottles. Lots of choices!

Birmingham Twilight’s lights and darks

Visually, Twilight is a beautiful, soft, dusty rose purple. Named Twilight, it resembles that brief period when the sun has set, and the last traces of light tint the sky. There’s some shading with this ink, and light areas add touches of gentle, pink brilliance, that contrast well with the deeper plum darks.

Spider-webbing on the saturated ink drop’s tips

As a writing ink, results varied widely. It writes wet and flows comfortably on the page. However, as the splatter and swatch card show, there’s a strange, spider web feathering on some papers. Mnemosyne, Kokuyo, and Fabriano gave me problems, but everything was normal on Rhodia, Apica, and office copy. I’m not sure if there is a correlation, but the premiums that took longer to dry gave better results. Apica and Rhodia dried in 15-20 seconds, while the others were 5-12 seconds.

Birmingham Twilight dries quickly

This is a very pretty ink, and on the right paper, I really like using it. If you’re happy using compatible papers, then I definitely think you’ll like it. I had good results on Rhodia, Apica, and office copy, and it was crisp, sharp, and particularly beautiful on Cosmo Air Light!

Birmingham Twilight’s bottle and label!

Please note: This ink was sent to me by Birmingham Pen Company, but that did not influence my review. As always, I present my honest opinions both good and bad.
