Antigua’s - Caribbean
Caribbean sits apart from the other blues in Antigua’s offers. This is a teal of almost equal parts blue and green. Most teals lean one way or the other, but Caribbean really balances the two nicely. You could call it a peacock green or a peacock blue, and both would be accurate.
Like so many of the Antigua’s inks, Caribbean has beautifully smooth flow and feel. It’s wet, but not to the point where it lacks control. This is a writer’s ink.
There’s very attractive shading on coated papers and a dark, defining stroke edge, as well. On uncoated papers, it’s more uniform, but that puts the spotlight on the beautiful base color even more.
In the swatches, there’s red sheening on saturated areas, but in writing, it’s a rarity. This ink behaves well with no feather or spread to worry about. There’s some show-through on uncoated papers, but it’s not a problem otherwise. Drying is average, too.
This is one of my favorites of the Antigua’s inks. The base color is so rich and confident. The comparison image shows some very similar alternatives, but Caribbean is the bluest in written strokes. The others lean green.
You can find it in a 50 ml bottle at www.antiguas.es for EUR11.99. If they ship to you, grab a bottle! (And good news! Starting in January 2024, full international shipping will be available!)
Special thanks to Miguel Angel at Antigua’s for providing the ink (but his generosity hasn’t influenced my review in any way), and to Maria at www.inksinspiration.com for sending them as a surprise! Check out both of their websites!
