Akkerman - SBRE Brown - Ink drop

Designed by, and named for popular pen and ink YouTuber, SBRE Brown, this ink is often listed among people’s favorite browns. It’s regularly sold out at my most frequented online retailers, but patience and persistence paid off, and I finally got a bottle.

Akkerman - SBRE Brown - Color variation

PW Akkerman SBRE Brown is a beautifully rich, luscious brown, but what really stands out is the strong orange undertone that gives it a warm, red-orange glow. It’s a very nice shading ink, and the orange influences scream out at every opportunity. The shading both lightens and darkens creating a lovely blend of colors, hues, and tones.

Akkerman inks are made by Diamine. Although we don’t get the Diamine prices, we do get the gorgeous, iconic, 60ml bottle Akkerman is known for, and Diamine’s experience making high-quality writing inks, as well. It’s wet and smooth, and glides comfortably on the page. This ink definitely ticks a lot of the boxes!

I was curious to find out whether this ink would live up to the reputation. Dr. Brown has a large fan base (myself included), and I wondered whether the ink overly benefited from the reflected glory of his popularity or stood on its own. I’m happy to say this ink deserves all of the praise it receives. It’s a beautiful ink, a very enjoyable writer, and it’s worth the extra effort and patience that it sometimes takes to obtain.
