3 Oysters - Aqua Green
To start, 3 Oysters Aqua Green from the Delicious series is far more delicious in real life, than I’ve been able to capture in these images. It’s more vibrant, more saturated, and has a much happier and positive visual feel. Dark aquas or brilliant teals are sometimes really tough to capture accurately in digital photos. I’ve used a scanner for some of these images, a phone camera for others, and I’ve tried different types of lighting. I’ve done my best to adjust them, but the color is more delicious in person.
Aqua Green is everything I like in a punchy, dark, aquamarine green. I use Robert Oster Tranquility regularly and love it, but Aqua Green may just replace it as my first choice in this color category. Comparing the two, the blue influences in Aqua Green are stronger and more forward. Both show subtle yellow undertones in areas of saturation, but the blue-green balance is more even in Aqua Green.
As expected, there’s some energetic red sheening in the splatter and a bit on the swatches. There are traces in writing on some coated papers, but it doesn’t really bloom. Shading is very nice. There are light stroke ends and good variation along strokes on many papers. A strong, dark stroke edging makes everything pop on coated papers, too. On uncoated papers, you find the color variation, but not the dramatic and defined jumps from dark to light.
Aqua Green is a viscous ink, but flow is fairly wet and very smooth. The stroke edging makes it razor-sharp on coated papers. On the cheapest copy papers, there was very minor spreading, but no problem with feathering. Show-through was moderate on copy paper, too, but that isn’t surprising. In terms of drying, it ranged from average to a bit longer on some coated papers. On Rhodia, you may have to be careful with smearing, too, but that’s my only real complaint.
If you like some of the inks in the swatch card comparison image, I think you’ll really like 3 Oysters Aqua Green. I recommend it strongly, especially if you’re willing to choose something other than Rhodia paper. Like the other Delicious series inks, you can find 38 ml bottles for US$16 on many of the popular online retailers.
