3 Oysters - Americano
This ink brings a smile to my face, but I’ll explain that in a moment. This is Americano, from 3 Oysters’ Delicious series. It’s one of six inks released at the end of 2020. (I smile, because there’s a very catchy, silly song called “Americano” by a Korean group called 10cm. If you listen, the word will be in your head all day! Check it out with the lyrics in Korean and English on YouTube.)
Visually, this looks exactly like a rich, dark café americano. It’s oddly satisfying! It’s an intense brown, with a touch of pink, and an interesting matte appearance. There’s some shading, and light areas somehow add a subtle greyness to the brown. The splatter shows a slight sheen, but neither sheen, nor halo show in writing. This ink is all about the richness, and overall, there’s something delicious here. It reminds me of fudge or brownie batter. Yum!
As a writing ink, this ink is strong. It’s on the dry side, but it’s very comfortable on the page. Strokes were sharp on all six test papers. Shading was modest, but consistent across the six, as well. Drying was quick at 10-15 seconds on most premiums (Rhodia was 15-20), and under 5 on office copy.
This isn’t a color that I’m normally quick to choose. I usually stay away from blacks, and this is a very dark brown. However, the longer I used it, the more I became enamored. There’s a lot more here, than I first realized. It’s also a very nice writing ink. I think for many, it will be an instant hit!
